  • CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? “EARTH HOUR” HAD NO IMPACT!

This is hilarious. Reports from Sydney, Australia, where “Earth Hour” was heavily hyped, indicate that there was no drop in power usage whatsoever. Actually, a better phrase would be one used by a reader of the article: the variation was statistically indistinguishable from zero.

What’s even more hilarious is the accounts of all the helicopters flying over (non)darkened Sydney — helicopters manned by Earth Hour people who wanted to film their spectacular results. And the thousands of extra cars on the road driving out to a point to look back and see the (non)darkened city. Oh, and the government offices which hypocritically (or fraudulently, as the article puts it) covered their windows so people would think the government (which had BACKED this!) was cooperating.

  • I confess that when I learned it was Earth Hour I turned on a few extra lights in the house, striking a blow for cheap energy everywhere.

  • I love the part about all the extra cars on the road just to see this. What a waste of good energy! And myself, I would’ve popped some popcorn and loaded up the fridge with some sodas, invited some friends over, maybe even ordered a pizza beforehand just to prepare!

  • I love how they were lighting candles, too. Here, look on earthhour2008′s own blog. They even have a picture of lighting candles. I guess to them, symbolism is bigger than any real gain.

Oh yeah, here’s this from http://www.thestar.com/earthhour where there’s a video about Toronto’s Earth Hour participation. They have a video that shows before and after pictures, and there was this huge concert! Yeah, OK, I guess a concert’s a good enough reason to have all your sound equipment turned on. But I don’t believe for one minute their before and after pictures were of that day. For crying out loud, SYDNEY’S picture was darker, even with the electric lights! Toronto should still be really dark at 8 PM for being so far north.
